Robert H. Leonard

Robert H. (Bob) Leonard was born in Saginaw, Michigan. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, he was commissioned as an Air Force officer. In May 1974, he was awarded a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and thereafter served as a judge advocate in a number of locations in the United States and overseas. His Air Force duties included: Senior Judge, Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals, Staff Judge Advocate, Area Defense Counsel, Military Judge, Deputy Chief, Air Force Military Justice Division, and Deputy Staff Judge Advocate USCENTAF. In May of 1992, he was awarded a Master of Laws in taxation with highest honors from George Washington University.

After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Leonard began a civilian practice of law specializing in tax, estate planning, and business planning. He initially worked for an estate planning and taxation firm in Washington, D.C. During that period, he gained extensive experience with sophisticated estate planning techniques such as insurance trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, grantor retained income trusts, generation-skipping dynasty trusts, family limited partnerships, split dollar arrangements, and buy-sell agreements. He moved to Laramie, Wyoming in September 1994.

Mr. Leonard's practice of law specializes in tax, estate planning, and business planning. He taught Estate and Gift Taxation as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Wyoming College of Law and has made many estate planning, business planning, and tax law presentations to community groups, lawyers, financial planners, real estate brokers, trust officers and insurance agents. Mr. Leonard is licensed to practice law in Wyoming, Colorado and Missouri. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and is a member of the Southeast Wyoming Estate Planning Council, the American Bar Association Section of Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law, and the Military Officers Assocation discount/legal services plan.

Mr. Leonard is married to the former Carmen Cores-Castro of Pontevedra, Spain. He has three children, Julie, Daniel, and Christopher. He enjoys snow skiing, biking, running and tinkering with his 1980 TR-7 (the only such model still running in Laramie).

Both Mr. Leonard and his wife are extensively involved in community affairs. Mr. Leonard has served on the board of directors or as an officer of Kiwanis, the Laramie Rotary Club, the Eppson Center for Seniors Foundation, the Albany County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the Wyoming Retired Officers Association. He is a member of the Laramie Rotary Club, the Laramie Kiwanis Club, the Laramie Chamber of Commerce, the Laramie Economic Development Corporation, and the Military Officers Association. Mr. Leonard also recruits cadets for the Air Force Academy by serving as an Academy Liaison Officer.
